Rithum Stat or Climate Integration: An Implementation Guide

There are two primary methods of Rithum interfacing with the climate control systems in a property:

1. Via integration – this is where Rithum is the front-end of a third party integration. All of the logic is built into the third party system and Rithum can control the setpoint and display the current temperature, along with a few other things depending on the integration.

Generally, if using an integration, Rithum’s temperature sensor data is not used by the third party system, meaning that you still need some form of sensor by the third party system “in the room”, though there are some integrations that allow us to “inject” our temperature sensor information via the software integration.

2. Rithum Stat – this is our thermostatic software which runs on Rithum Switch (or Rithum Switch Pro), meaning the logic for the climate control is built-in and Rithum’s temperature sensor is used directly. What Rithum doesn’t have built-in is a relay, so we utilise a relay in any one of our existing integrations (or even via a http request) to do the zone switching.

Depending on the design of your heating system and, if a retrofit, the existing control solution you have in place, there are a few different ways to implement all of this, so let’s dive in to a few different options.

Options if you have Heatmiser

For those with an existing Heatmiser setup, Rithum Stat offers several integration options, allowing you to retain key functionality while upgrading to a more modern interface:

Option 1: Complement your Heatmiser system

  • Relocate the Heatmiser Neostat to a cupboard or discreet location.
  • Add a remote temperature probe to allow the Neostat to continue sensing the zone’s temperature.
  • Use Rithum to control the Heatmiser Neostat, maintaining your existing infrastructure while adding a sleek new touchscreen interface, though you will need a cable to power the Rithum Switch and also one for the remote temperature probe. You’ll also require the Rithum Heatmiser plugin on each switch that is to control Heatmiser.

Option 2: Replace the thermostat but keep the wiring centre

  • Install Zigbee relays (to integrate via a Hue Bridge), Shelly relays or any other HTTP controllable relays in the manifold on each of the zone inputs on the Heatmiser Wiring Centre. This means that when one of these relays is closed to “call for heat” in the zone, the wiring centre can do any necessary switching of boilers, pumps, and the like. If you’re using Shelly, you’ll also need Rithum’s Shelly plugin on each Rithum Switch.
  • The Rithum Switch can be powered using either 12-30V DC or 100-240V AC sent down the original cable (depending on cable capabilities), which simplifies installation.

Note: The Heatmiser app will no longer function with this setup, but Rithum’s 7-day scheduler ensures effective, app-free climate control.

Option 3: Complete replacement

    • If your setup doesn’t require control of heat sources, pumps, or other elements managed by a wiring centre, you can remove the wiring centre entirely.
    • For more complex systems, additional relays can be installed to manage pumps or heat sources, with logic configured between relays (e.g., using Shelly relays) to ensure efficient operation.

Tado Integration

With Tado, Rithum can control your heating, though the Tado thermostat must remain in the room since we cannot inject our temperature data into the Tado system, though you could put it in a more discrete location since it won’t be the main control point.

Alternatively, Rithum Stat can replace the Tado thermostat for local control, though this does not yet include app functionality.

CoolAutomation compatibility

Rithum Stat integrates with CoolAutomation for control of most AC or HVAC systems. Also, using ClimateSync by Tenways Engineering, a UK solution for underfloor heating control, allows both AC and heating control via the CoolautoMation integration.

Additionally, Rithum can send its temperature sensor data directly to CoolAutomation via the Feed command, replacing the return air temperature sensor in your AC unit.

Homey integration

Rithum Stat works with Homey to trigger complex flows for controlling boilers, pumps, and other heating components.

Through Homey, users can adjust setpoints and climate zones while enabling advanced automation, such as scene triggers or light-level adjustments via the Rithum interface.

Fibaro integration

With Fibaro, Rithum Stat controls climate zones while also using quickApps to incorporate Rithum’s temperature data into automated flows, allowing full two-way integration between the two systems. See this full blog post on integrating Fibaro and Rithum.

KNX integration

While not offering full BMS or climate integration with KNX, Rithum Stat can send temperature sensor data to a KNX group address, offering compatibility for advanced setups.

Control4 integration

Rithum integrates with Control4 via a driver, enabling climate control, scheduling, and advanced lighting scenes—all accessible from the Rithum interface. Read the full blog post on Control4 integration here.

Loxone integration (coming soon)

By integrating Rithum with Loxone, users can control lighting scenes, levels, climate and more, all from Rithum’s intuitive interface.

Example climate system setups

Case 1: Ahmed’s Heatmiser transition
John wanted a modern interface without fully replacing his Heatmiser system. By relocating his Neostat and installing a Rithum Switch, he retained his Heatmiser system while upgrading to intuitive touchscreen control.

Case 2: Emily’s CoolAutomation integration
Emily combined Rithum Stat with CoolAutomation’s ClimateSync to synchronise underfloor heating and AC, achieving effortless temperature control throughout her home.

Make your smart home easy

Hopefully we’ve demonstrated the ease, flexibility and benefits of Rithum Stat. It’s more than just a thermostat—it’s a tool to help you take charge of your comfort and energy costs while staying ahead of the curve. What’s next? Either;
